- Tertiary qualifications in accounting or financial management and a minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical financial data in an accessible manner.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and participate as part of a wider team
- Demonstrated ability to flexibly create regular and ad hoc reports to suit a range of situations with differing and complex requirements.
- Experience in Microsoft Officer products, Finance software: Xero, QuickBooks
- Ability to understand various legislations, statutory obligation, and Council policies in order to make informed decisions.
- Drivers License
- Previous Government experience
- Current CPA membership
This position reports directly to the Finance Manager and is responsible for the provision of specialist financial services including the preparation, monitoring, analysis and reporting of the organisations financial position in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare asset, liability, and capital entries by gathering and reviewing account information
- Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements
- Help monitor and update the organisations Long-Term Financial Plan, including income, cash flow, capital works, depreciation, and key financial indicators
- Provide financial reports and insights to senior management using accounting data
- Work with leadership to ensure financial records reflect the organisations current and future position
- Maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures, ensuring documents are stored correctly
- Support managers in improving financial understanding across the organisation
- Ensure financial operations meet relevant standards, legislation, and funding requirements
- Assist the Finance Manager in delivering accurate and timely financial services
- Mentor and support other finance team members
